Nanotechnology in Sponges

Sponges, though it is still not clear whether they are plants or animals, are inspiring the solution to a problem which has troubled chemists for years. Scientists were working on ways of obtaining complex micro or nano (a billionth of a meter) structures by using simple inorganic substances like silicon. Producing a micro-scale device such as a transistor required difficult and expensive processes such as cutting a silicon layer neatly. A species of sponge (tethya aurantia) has proved to be a model for a possible solution.

It's me, Peter, your Nose!

You recognize light with your eyes, while you perceive sound waves with your ears. Earlier, those organs told you how they represent God's beautiful creation. They show His splendid art and His Beautiful Names that are manifested on them. Now, I, your nose, will take my turn to show the different intricacies and wonders of God's art exhibited in my creation. I am a sensory organ, created to perceive smell through chemical reactions. I will open a window in front of you through which you will see the manifestations of God's knowledge and might from a different point of view.

The Amazing Story of Hearing
thumb_eye2314

Today a large part of modern science focuses on understanding the human body. Researchers working on life sciences hope that one day the secrets of every single detail that make us human will be revealed. Every year billions of dollars are spent by scientific institutions on learning more about us. Actually this fact by itself is enough to suggest how little control we have over things happening in our bodies, and we know even less about the mechanisms of moving, touching, speaking, seeing, or hearing, and so on.

When a Finger Moves

The moment I want to move my finger, a large number of neurons in my brain start sending each other small electrical impulses. These impulses travel from my brain to the rest of my body through the medulla oblongata and the spinal cord. They are then delivered to my arm, which forms only one part of my peripheral nervous system. When these small electrical impulses reach my finger, they cause the muscle cells there to contract and thereby enable my finger to move.

It's Me Adam, your Pancreas!
Adam, I am not so big as other organs like the liver, heart, and lungs; it is difficult to notice me most of the time. But whether we are large or small, no organ is superior to another; we are all just units of a perfectly created whole. None of us can function without the other organs.

IS THIS JUST A FLY?

If you just look at my wings, you can see that they are like a perfect work of art. Think about it, what would be more difficult, producing a large watch or a small and sophisticated one? Obviously producing a small watch is much more complicated. Just as you have organs that carry out the biological functions in your body that are necessary for your survival, I also have organs and systems in my body which carry out similar functions.

BUILDING BLOCKS OF BODY; CELLS
thumb_cell01

Our bodies are composed of trillions of cells. This number should not be overlooked. Indeed a trillion is an exceptionally large number. Every adult human body contains about 100 trillion cells. But thanks to the fact that these cells are very small, our bodies are not of gigantic size.
